GLSMED LH is the training, research, and innovation centre of Luz Saúde, one of Portugal's largest private healthcare providers. With a team of clinical trial coordinators, project managers, contract managers and research grant managers, GLSMED LH supports and promotes research within the Luz Saúde group, aiming to develop new methodologies that enhance patient care. It aims to generate and disseminate knowledge, technologies and advanced practices to improve patient safety and quality of care. GLSMED LH has coordinated over 140 clinical trials involving more than 400 patients, bridging the gap between research and clinical practice.
The training programs of GLSMED LH, developed at the medical simulation centre at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, cater to healthcare professionals both within and outside the Luz Saúde group. These programs range from scientific events to training courses, tailored to meet the needs and objectives of participants.
In research, GLSMED LH focuses on preventive medicine, early diagnostic methods, personalised medicine and outcomes research, supported by advanced analytical methods and human factor engineering. The centre also fosters open innovation, providing resources for the creation of new products and services, from idea conception to market positioning.
Through initiatives like Protechting, GLSMED LH supports health startups and serves as a gateway to innovation within the Luz Saúde group. By reinforcing its commitment to excellence and innovation, GLSMED LH transforms the hospital of the future into today's reality, contributing to the development of exceptional healthcare professionals and improved patient care.
Role within INTERCEPT
GLSMED LH will manage the prospective observational study involving 10,000 at risk subjects to validate a predictive score for Crohn’s disease development in European first-degree relatives (FDRs), integrating previously developed predictive tools from WP1 and WP2. GLSMED LH is responsible for establishing the Study Platform, creating central documents such as the Informed Consent Forms ensuring ethical compliance and participant trust, developing Case Report Forms to systematically collect and document data from the study participants and Participant Information Sheet to ensure complete information to study participants. Furthermore, GLSMED LH will coordinate the seven (7) countries to guarantee seamless workflow across multiple centres.
Additionally, GLSMED LH will contribute to other work packages, such as WP4. The involvement in multiple work packages highlights their comprehensive role in the INTERCEPT project.
