Current Treatment Options: A persistent gap

A combination of treatment options are available for patients with Crohn’s disease but there is no one-size-fits-all approach as each patient is different. Current available options include medication, clinical trials, changes in diet and nutrition and sometimes surgical procedures to repair or remove affected portions of the digestive tract.

Despite the advances in treatment, more than 50% of patients do not respond to current therapies. Many drugs are expensive, adding financial strain to the patient and their families, and often have a high toxicity level. Drug-free remission is however seldom possible. Without early detection, patients face late diagnosis and high rates of surgery, disability and various mental health disorders.
