The Mount Sinai Health System is an integrated health care system providing exceptional medical care to our local and global communities. Encompassing the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the Mount Sinai Phillips School of Nursing and eight hospital campuses in the New York metropolitan area, as well as a large, regional ambulatory footprint, Mount Sinai is internationally acclaimed for its excellence in research, patient care, and education across a range of specialties.

The Mount Sinai Division of Gastroenterology is a world-class leader in digestive disease care, research and education. Renowned for our expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal disorders and advanced endoscopy, we integrate cutting-edge treatments with pioneering research. With top national rankings, we offer comprehensive, patient-centred care to the communities we serve, as well as exceptional training to future leaders in gastroenterology.

Role within INTERCEPT

Our institution is involved in INTERCEPT at different levels. Prof Jean-Frédéric Colombel is global co-PI on the grant. Mount Sinai is coordinating the PROMISE consortium which is a research network involving three different pre-clinical cohorts; the PREDICTs cohort (PI. JF Colombel), the GEM cohort (PI. Ken Croitoru) and the NHS cohort (PI. Hamed Khalili). PROMISE constitutes the pillar of WP1 and WP2 by exploring predictive CD biomarkers and building a risk serologic score. This would be further validated in European cohorts before serving to detect people at high risk of developing CD in the prospective cohort of 10000 first-degree relatives (WP3) who could then be enrolled in the HALT-CD prevention trial (WP4).
